“General der Gebirgstruppe Rudolf Konrad and his divisions amassed a major share in the breakthrough of strong enemy defensive positions west of Rostov. Thereafter the Korps was used in the fighting south of Rostov in order to take the city of Bataisk, which was vital for the creation of a bridgehead south of the Don. Here General Konrad put himself at the head of his Kompanien, which were able to do their duties despite the difficult marshy terrain.”
