Biography

Gerardus Johannes Adrianus Pulles / Gerrit-Jan Pulles was the eldest son from the marriage of Dr H.A. (Hub) Pulles (1895-1969) and Catharine (To) Swinkels (1901-2001) Before the war, father Hub Pulles worked as a veterinarian and was befriended with the author Mr A. Roothaert; he was the inspiration for the Dr. Vlimmen trilogy written by the latter.
From February 1, 1941 until September 5, 1944, Hub Pullen was the NSB mayor of Eindhoven. After the war, the married couple was sentenced to imprisonment for collaboration.
Three of the four sons entered German military service. (Gerrit-Jan, Ad and Piet) and served on the Eastern front. Son number four Werner was too young. Not one of the said three returned from the war.
