16.01.1944: U-66 left Lorient to operate in middle Atlantic then Freetown and the Gulf of Guinea and back
06.05.1944: survived after 111 days of patrol when U-66 was sunk west of Cape Verde 17°17' North - 32°29' West by USS 'BUCKLEY' (D.51) - remaining crew : 24 KIA and 36 rescued by destroyer escort USS 'Buckley'
