Biography

Hans-Joachim Drewitz served as Kommandant of the Minensuchboote "M 9" and "M10". From July 30th, 1942 until August 11th, 1943 he served as Kommandant "U 525". He was killed in actin when his ship was sunk on August 11th, 1943 at 41.29N / 38.55W near the Azores by the aircraftcarrier U.S.S. Card of Convoy AHL54. During three operational sails (137 days at sea) he had sunk one ship with a tonnage of 3.454BRT and finally reached the rank of Korvettenkapitän.
