Awarded for the achievements that he racked up over the course of four years of active service in the Mediterranean, English Channel and Baltic Sea. He particularly distinguished himself on the night of the 26./27.06.1941, in which his S-Boat and another were able to score a hit on the Soviet destroyer “Storozevoj” (part of a much larger Soviet naval formation) in the Irben Straits. By the time of receiving the Knight’s Cross he had participated in over 100 sorties.
