The following newspaper article describes why Richter received the Knight’s Cross…

“Major Rudolf Richter / Leader of an Infanterie-Regiment:

Major der Reserve Rudolf Richter… and his Infanterie-Regiment had an important role in the fall of Sevastopol. Whilst leading at the head of his infantrymen, he advanced through the enemy fortifications up to the Black Sea and thereafter established the essential conditions for the occupation of the fortified territory along the west coast.

Thus, for this outstanding and independently executed feat-of-arms, Richter was awarded the Knight’s Cross on the 07.08.1942 as Major der Reserve and commander of Infanterie-Regiment 97.”
