The following wartime excerpt from the ‘Ungarische Soldatenzeitung’ describes why Lakatos received the Knight’s Cross…

“Generaloberst Géza Lakatos was awarded the Knight’s Cross by the Führer and Reich Chancellor Hitler. - He was given this high award in recognition of the successful attack by the Royal Hungarian Army in the Carpathians as well as for its successful defense against Soviet attacks in the Kolomea area.”

This text refers to the General’s achievements as the commander of the 1st Hungarian Army in the spring of 1944.
