Biography

Friedrich Scherer was born January 22nd in Güdesweiler. In 1915 he joined 9.Kompanie des Königin-Elisabeth-Garde-Grenadier Regiment Number 3 in which he saw action in World War One as Unteroffizier. For his contribution to the fighting, he was awarded the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class and the Prussian Golden Medal for Military Merit.
After WW 1 he landed in the Traditions-Kompanie des Regiments Königin Elisabeth(5./5 Jäger Regiment Angermünde) with the rank of Feldwebel and was honorably discharged with the rank of Oberleutnant der Reserve.
In 1939 Friedrich Scherer was called to arms again and enlisted as Oberleutnant der Reserve. Later on he was promoted to Hauptmann der Reserve and from January 1st, 1941, onwards to Battalions Kommandeur.
