Biography

Georg Saalmann was born on January 27th, 1899 in Leal (Lihula), Estonia of German immigrants.
His early education began at the Prince Oldenburg Military Gymnasium and he was trained as a Cavalry Cadet Officer in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
He left Russia for Estonia, during the Bolshevik Revolution for Eston.
He married Kara Seeger (Born in 1914, Moskow) in 1936 in Tallin. They had three children, a daughter and two sons.

They migrated to Posen early 1938. At the end of WW2 he spent some time in a Soviet POW camp.

In 1946 after his release, he was living in Magdeburg. He was employed by the Soviets in the dismantling and cataloging of anti aircraft defences and military hardware due to his lnowledge of the Russian Language. He defected to the West of Berlin in 1949. In 1953 he migrated with his family to Melbourne, Australia and died 1980.
