22.01.1944: KIA – Bf 109 G-6 in combat with 4 Il-2s at low altitude over Berdichev - Ukraine, and may have been brought down by ground fire. Another version described his aircraft lost ivo Lyuban - Leningrad
28.01.1944: posthumously awarded DKG as Fw - 10./JG 51.
03.04.1944: awarded the Ehrenpokal
09.06.1944: posthumously awarded Ritterkreuz as Ofw - 10./JG 51

Posthumously promoted to Leutnant and credited with ca.380 combat missions and 66 air victories.
