Meier’s Knight’s Cross recommendation reads as follows…

“Leutnant Meier (Staffelführer in the I./Jagdgeschwader 52) has outstandingly distinguished himself in combat against Russia as both a pilot and formation leader.

Over the course of many hard aerial battles he was able to shoot down 77 aircraft.

I ask that this brave and successful fighter pilot (who was fatally wounded whilst scrambling) be posthumously awarded the Knight’s Cross to the Iron Cross.”
