For exceptionally meritorious conduct in the performance of outstanding service as Commander of the armed (fighting) component of the Interior Forces of the Netherlands. Major Borghouts completed a parachute course in England and was dropped in Holland early in 1945. He immediately assumed command of the armed units in northern, eastern and southern Holland and achieved great success in operations against the enemy.
