Büssecker received the Knight’s Cross for his actions in the Stalingrad pocket. His award recommendation reads as follows…

“From the 02. to 04.12.1942 Büssecker alone destroyed 20 tanks, 6 trucks (with mounted infantry) and 5 cannons while operating a lone 8.8 cm Flak gun. By doing so he decisively contributed to the local combat. He has been recognized by the commander of the 3. Infanterie-Division (mot) as an outstanding personality who delivered important combat results. Bearer of the Iron Cross First Class since the 19.09.1942. Büssecker was badly wounded on the 04.12.1942, this being his third wound of the war.”
