“He had already outstandingly distinguished himself as a Batterie commander in a Flak-Regiment during the fighting against Poland and France. At the start of the campaign against Greece he again distinguished himself through his great bravery. During bitter combat at close range he decisively contributed to the battle while contending with strong enemy action. The actions of his Batterie as well as his inspiring bravery decisively contributed to the forward march of an Infanterie-Division.”

The action referred to here was his unit’s support of the 72. Infanterie-Division during the crushing of a portion of the Metaxas Line near the village of Kat Nevrokopion and the fortified mountain Ochiron. In total Dienhold and his Batterie engaged 32 bunkers, destroying 28 of them. The unit also destroyed an artillery position and an armoured observation post.
