Period:
Second World War (1939-1945)
Rank:
Kapitän zur See (Captain Royal Navy)
Unit:
Kommandant U-Boot "U 123"
Awarded on:
January 23rd, 1945
Awarded for sinking 4 ships (with 24531 GRT) and damaging 1 other ship (with 2373 GRT) as commander of U-1232. All of these achievements, as well as a few other unconfirmed ships hit, took place during a single patrol near Canadian waters in early 1945. As such it was one of the most successful U-Boat patrols at this stage of the war, and this in turn provided the main justification for Dobratz receiving the award.
