On the 22.12.1944 units of the 87. Infanterie-Division launched an operation that aimed to recapture the old frontline along both sides of Gederti-Vamzi. During the course of this counterassault Oberleutnant Droitsch and his Kompanie succeeded in seizing the village of Gederti in a swift action, one which was a major boost to morale for the German forces in the area. Droitsch would subsequently be awarded the Knight’s Cross for this successful action.
