The following wartime excerpt (dated 30.08.1940) describes why Enneccerus received the Knight’s Cross…

“Hauptmann Enneccerus has accomplished extraordinary feats with his Stukagruppe. In the West the unit not only distinguished itself by attacks against columns, troop assembly areas, artillery batteries, fortified villages and railway targets. It also launched extremely valuable airstrikes against the Forts near Lüttich, Maubeuge and Givet as well as the Maginot Line near Weißenburg and Kaiserstuhl. Hauptmann Enneccerus’s Stukagruppe launched an attack that smashed an assembly of French armour near Philippeville and disabled the railway station at Evreux. Hauptmann Enneccerus (who had already distinguished himself in the East) facilitated the successes of his Gruppe through his firm leadership and personal example on the battlefield.”
