“During the forest battle of Lasiskiai, on the 24.06.1941, Feldwebel Eske led his Zug forwards into combat with fearlessness and audacity. Positioned at the point of his Jäger-Bataillon, he thrust through the enemy’s field positions and in doing so ensured that the well equipped and hard fighting enemy (consisting of 2 battalions) could be captured with minimal friendly losses. Through his bravery and prudence in the battle around Marjampol he had a decisive share in the swift advance of the Division.”
