Biography

Herbert Eymer reached the rank of Oberstleutnant der Reserve. He died on February 20th, 1943 in the Feldlazerett Krasnyi-Luc of his wounds received on February 18th, 1943 near Uspenka at the Mius.

Awarded for the successes of his Bataillon during the defensive battles along the mid-Donez river in January-February 1942. He particularly distinguished himself when Soviet forces had entered the German positions in his vicinity. Oberleutnant Eymer thrust forward on his own initiative in a counterthrust and threw the Soviets back. He then carried on forwards deep into marching enemy forces, disregarding the threat to his flanks, and inflicted heavy losses in doing so.

Awarded posthumously.
