Awarded for his actions during the fighting against Soviet breakthrough attempts southwest of Krasnodar in early 1943. Oberleutnant Jacob took over his Bataillon on the 19.01.1943 after its previous commander, Hauptmann Abt, had become a casualty. The following day he would distinguish himself with the unit by recapturing the Lambina-mountain. It continued to fight for control of the mountain in the fighting which followed, once again taking it back on the 25.01.1943 after it was temporarily lost. Jacob would be recognized appropriately for his role in these battlefield successes.
