The following press article describes why Fromm received the Knight’s Cross…

“At the recommendation of the Supreme Commander of the Heer, Generaloberst von Brauchitsch, the Führer and Supreme Commander of the Wehrmacht has furthermore awarded the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross to General der Artillerie Friedrich Fromm, chief of armaments and commander of the replacement army.

As the chief of armaments and commander of the replacement army in the OKH, General der Artillerie Fromm has directed the personnel and materiel equipping of our field army since the start of the war. His responsibility and inspiring energy succeeded in creating an instrument of war that met the requirements of his supreme commander and the Führer himself. This in turn enabled our decisive battles in the north and west across a wide area. As such General der Artillerie Fromm has one of the most important shares in the proud victories of our field army.”
