“Oberfeldwebel Friedrich Vogelsang and his MG-Zug found themselves locked in combat during a local penetration of friendly lines by enemy tanks in the area north of Orel. He deployed his MGs to combat the Bolshevik’s infantry while he personally engaged a heavy enemy tank at the head of an assault troop. This tank was successfully knocked out, and his brave actions were responsible for the successful defeat of the Bolshevik attack that was spearheaded by 60 tanks.”
