Has distinguished himself in battle by performing outstanding acts of courage, conduct and loyalty on May 12th, 1940 on the Grebbeberg with a small unit of Military Police by energetic action having led retreating troops back in the direction of the enemy over a large distance. In the night of May 12th to 13th having moved once more energetically against retreating troops. On May 13th, in a courageous stand near the viaduct east of the village of Rhenen having prevented the enemy for a long time from crossing the railwayline to the west, thereby inspiring others to stand ground and having operated a machinegun himself.
