    Royal decree no.31
    Bronzen Leeuw (BL)
"For gallantry in action while serving with Company E, 2d Battalion, 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 82d Airborne Division, in action on 29 September 1944, about two and one half miles from ****, Holland. Private First Class Lodge, platoon runner, when his platoon was attacked by a company of enemy troops and three tanks, dashed 50 yards across bare and open ground through sweeping enemy fire to an unmanned machine gun. With this weapon he opened up with such an intense volume of well-directed fire that the enemy infantry was forced to withdraw causing the withdrawal of the tanks. Private First Class Lodge, acting voluntarily, almost single-handedly repulsed an enemy attack on a vital area of ground when his platoon was in grave peril. His gallant actions and dedicated devotion to duty, without regard for his own life, were in keeping with the highest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Army."
