Biography

Werner Duve finally reached the rank of Oberstleutnant.

Werner Duve entered the Frankenstein Police School in Silesia as a police student on October 1, 1930. On October 1, 1931, he was promoted to police sergeant and transferred to the mounted state police hundred in Breslau. On October 15, 1935, he was accepted into the Wehrmacht and transferred to the 7th Company of the 84th Infantry Regiment. On November 1, 1937, he was promoted to sergeant-major, on June 1, 1938, he was promoted to sergeant-major. On August 26, 1939, he was transferred to the 7th Company of the 164 Infantry Regiment. Appointed officer candidate on July 1, 1940, he was transferred to the 6th Company of 164 Infantry Regiment as platoon leader on the same day. On August 21, 1940 he was promoted to lieutenant and first lieutenant and on October 23, 1940 chief of the 6th Company. On January 5, 1942, he was shot in the shoulder and taken to a hospital. On March 16, 1942 he became company commander of the convalescent company in Infantry Replacement Battalion 164. On April 8, 1942, he was promoted to captain. From August 15, 1942 to April 20, 1943 he was leader of the II. Battalion of Grenadier Regiment 164. On April 21, 1943 he was leader of the II. Battalion of Grenadier Regiment 676. On August 6, 1943 he was appointed by a large splinter wounded on the right ankle, but remained with the troops. A day later, he was wounded in the face with a large splinter. On September 20, 1943, he was awarded the German Cross in Gold. On December 8, 1943, he was then commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 676 Grenadier Regiment, and from April 20, 1944, 2nd / Grenadier Regiment 164. On February 20, 1944, he was promoted to major. On August 10, 1944, he was transferred to the leader reserve of the OKH and on October 23, 1944 leader of the Grenadier Regiment 183. During the Ardennes offensive, he distinguished himself with his regiment and made a decisive contribution to the conquest of St. Vith . For this he was awarded the Knight's Cross on February 2, 1945. On March 3, 1945 he was fatally wounded in Schneppenheim, Werhahn, northeast of Euskirchen.
