Recommendation:
For having performed acts of courage, tact and loyalty against the enemy in wartime, as commander of the Dutch motorvessel m.s. Omlandia, sailing in convoy with five other vessels from Southampton to Falmouth on August 8th, 1940 being attacked by some twelve hostile aitrcraft, having conducted himself very courageously and tactfully by using the only machinegun aboard ship, despite heavy machingun fire from the aircraft and bombs falling around his vessel to fire at the attacking aircraft continuously and with his assistance, shooting down one of them and for having encouraged his crew throughout the entire action to hold out and not until the ammunition had almost been exhausted and seriously injured himself ordered them to abandon the heavily damaged vessel.
