Biography

Hasso Hermann Max Holst was born on 18 July,1920 in the
Charlottenburg-Berlin. His mother, Frieda Holst passed away in 1933. His father, Paul, was an inspector. He was of evangelical faith, never married, and was still student when he entered military service.
He learned English and French while in school. Hasso Holst was a member of the life-saving society of Germany, was certified in gliding.

Hasso volunteered for military service on 22nd February 1938, was tested fit for service, but not called on for duty. On 21st November 1938 he volunteered for service in the Luftwaffe as an officer candidate.
In April 1939 Hasso holst started his Reichs Arbeitsdienst (RAD) service and was assigned to a Bau-Bataillon on 26th August 1938.

On 1st October 1939 he finally was called up for military service and was assigned to the 2. Kompanie / Flieger-Ausbildungs-Regiment 42 on 5th October. His allegience was swore in on 8th October.

1st February 1940: Fahnenjunker-Gefreiter;
1st April 1940: Fahnenjunker-Unteroffizier;
1st July 1940: Fähnrich;
1st December 1940: Oberfähnrich;
1st February 1941: Leutnant.
