Biography

Johann Rathei entered the army on 17th February 1942. After his onvocation on 15th March he served with the Reichsarbeitsdienst until 26th September. On 15th October he was placed with the Stammkompanie / Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon 8 in Metz. The unit transferred to 3. / Reserve-Pionier-Bataillon 8 on 31st October. Between 16th February 1943 and 28th February, Rathei served briefly with the 3. / Pionier-Bataillon 20 and subsequently from 17th March Stammkompanie / Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon 213 in Brieg which changed on 18th March to Marschkompanie / Pionier-Ersatz-Bataillon 213. From 16th June he served with 1. / Panzer-Pionier-Bataillon 16.
Johann Rathei was killed on 13th August 1944.
