Biography

Abbott began his military career with the US Army on July 15, 1936. On 4 May 1941 Abbott was promoted to 2nd Lieutenant and on 20 March 1942 to Captain. On July 5, 1944, he lands as captain of the 134th Infantry Regiment on Omaha Beach. The regiment saw action with the capture of St. Lo, the liberation of Nancy, the Battle of the Bulge and then via France and the Netherlands part of the occupation of Hanover. On September 5, 1945, Abbott left with the regiment for the United States.
