Rank:
Lieutenant
Unit:
A Company, 1st Battalion, Royal 22e Régiment, 3rd Canadian Infantry Brigade, 1st Canadian Infantry Division, Canadian Army
Recommendation:
On the night of 18/19 July 1943 at Gratta Calda, Sicily, this officer with complete disregard for his personal safety was largely responsible for the quick reorganization of his unit when attacked by the enemy while embossed. After putting his company into position, Capt Bouchard stalked enemy positions, and although the area was under enemy fire, went so close to the enemy in order to locate their positions that he could hear Germans talking among themselves. He thus was able to bring down accurate fire which destroyed the enemy strong points.
