Recommendation:
On the night of 21/22 July 1943 when the Edmn R attacked the fortified town of Leonforte (Sicily) Capt Tighe in command of “A” Coy successfully fought his company through the town, capturing the objective heyond, and though surrounded held out against strong enemy counter attacks until able to establish contact with the remaining companies. During this action Capt Tighe’s company suffered a total loss of only three killed and five wounded, although inflicting know enemy casualties of 24 killed while silencing enemy pillboxes and totally destroying several strong points. During all this action Capt Tighe displayed personal bravery under heavy enemy fire and cool intelligent leadership o a very high order, this feat was undoubtedly a most important factor in the final capture of the town.
