At the commencement of the night attack on Catenanuova (Sicily) by “A” Company, West Nova Scotia Regiment 30 July 1943, the Company Commander became casualty, and Lieutenant Guy took charge.
This Officer personally led the Company under heavy fire over the 600 yards of open ground to the objective, successfully attacked it and consolidated.
The Germans counter-attacked at dawn and overrun two platoon positions. Lieutenant Guy rallied the Company, and then gallantly and courageously led an assault to retake the objective, drove the enemy again from the position, and held it. Fiftyfour German dead lay around this position at the conclusion of this action.
This very junior Officer displayed on this occasion, leadership, courage and tenacity of the highest order.
