Recommendation:
On 6 June 1944, Captain Tom Bond, by his personal courage, determination and utter disregard for personal danger and devotion to duty, was responsible for the successful advance of Le Régiment de la Chaudière, to which he was attached as Forward Observation Officer. Captain Bond, throughout the battalion's advance from the beaches, stood forward with the leading company in order to give good support to the infantry. On two occasions, although under heavy enemy artillery and mortar fire, he remained in his Observation Post until the capture of the objective. In one particular instance, in the vicinity of Le Hamel, he was shelled out of his Observation Post and while keeping fire going on his objective, he went forward to another Observation Post, still under heavy fire, to continue giving valuable support to the infantry. Throughout the operation, this officer's coolness and confidence under fire was observed to be an inspiration to all.
