For extraordinary heroism in connection with military operations against an armed enemy. On 19 August 1944, in the vicinity the Chambois, France, Private Giebelstein was serving as one member of a two-man rocket launcher team, advancing with elements of the 358th
Infantry Regiment against determined enemy resistance. When several enemy tanks approached, the two men moved from position to a position exposed to enemy fire, and calmly held their fire until the enemy came within close range. Expending only five rounds of ammunition, they destroyed four tanks.
The heroic actions of Private Giebelstein, and his companion, and their courageous devotion to duty exemplify the highest traditions of military forces of United States.
