"Throughout the early part of the raid this N.C.O. handled his Mortar detachment very well as rifleman. Towards the end of the action he was wounded by an Anti-personnel mine on the beach and although suffering considerable pain, he got his 3" Mortar into action directly afterwards and fired all the ammunition into the enemy battery before retiring. He succeded in getting his mortar to the L.C.P. despite small arms fire from the cliffs at about 300 yards."
