Joseph J. Tenuto, 33339118, Sergeant (then Private) Company C, 331st Infantry, United States Army. For distinguishing himself by gallantry in action on 8 July 1944, near Carentan, France. When the advance of his platoon was held up by fire from a strategically placed enemy machine gun, Sergeant Tenuto who had joined in the attack despite being previously wounded, unhesitatingly and with heroic determination crawled and worked his way to the flank of the enemy. With utter disregard for his own safety, he hurled two hand grenades in to the position, knocked it out and captured two of the enemy.
