Jesse Ray Coffey entered service with the Royal Canadian Air Force at Edmonton, Alberta on May 15th, 1942. After training he graduated from No. 4 Service Flying Training School on April 30, 1943.
He served in Europe with No. 405 Squadron flying with the Avro Lancaste an took part in 59 operationele sorties. He left the service in 1945.

Since the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross he has continued to display outstanding airmanship, determination and exceptional devotion to duty which have won the confidence and admiration of all his crew."

Second DFC received in the form of a bar to be worn on the ribbon of the first DFC.
