Biography

Service number 45200.
James Grant MacCoubrey was at the outbreak of hostilities serving as a Sergeant Pilot with 10 Squadron. After nine months of operational flying he was posted to 19 Operational Training Unit at Kinloss as an instructor. On February 18th 1941, the Whitley V aircraft in which he was Captain, suffered engine failure on approach to Forres aerodrome and crashed on the aerodrome boundary. Five of the crew were found dead in the wreckage,
Sergeant E. Lawley and MacCoubrey were seriously burned.
MacCoubrey died of his extensive burns and shock.
