The following justification was given for Fremerey’s award of the Knight’s Cross…

“Under orders from its divisional commander, the 29. Division (mot) again launched a bold thrust without regard for its flanks on the 14.07.1942, and by doing so it succeeded in both penetrating into Morosowskaja and ejecting the enemy from the city. Always pushing forward, Generalmajor Fremerey showed great leadership and self-reliance during this time. In the context of the ongoing pursuit operations taking place, the occupation of Moschkoff and Morosowskaja was of decisive importance for pushing the enemy away from the Don river.”
