Biography

Before commencing training as a Flight Engineer Ronald Schofield was employed as a Fitter. He was posted to No. 101 Squadron in May 1943.
He survived two operational tours, including the Hamburg firestorm raids and the Peenemunde raid in July 1943.
Latterly, Schofield qualified as a 2nd Pilot and flew York aircraft on supply trips to Malta, Cairo, Karachi and Columbo with No. 511 Squadron in late 1944. His final appointment was with 1331 Transport Squadron Conversion Unit on Dakotas back in the U.K., and he was demobilised as a Flying Officer in mid-1946. In later years he was to be consulted by a number of historians about his wartime experiences, and mention of him may be found in Bomber Squadron At War, by Andrew Brookes (1983), and Maximum Effort III, by Patrick Otter (1993). He became Canadian citizen after moving to Canada.
