Anthony Lynch was awarded his first DFC on September 15th, 1939 for his part in operations in Palestine between November 1st, 1938 and March 31st, 1939 with the rank of Pilot Officer.

13th October 1937: acting Pilot Officer (on probation);
16th August 1938: Pilot Officer;
16th February 1940: Flying Officer;
16th February 1941: Flight Lieutenant (war subs.);
1st March 1942: temporary Squadron Leader;
1st November 1947: revoked temporary Squadron Leader;
1st November 1947: Flight Lieutenant (seniority 1st December 1942).

Career:
16th August 1943: transferred to Volunteer Reserves and recalled to duty with Royal Air Force Service;
17th December 1948: transferred to Class (A).

Citation:
"This officer was the pilot of an aircraft detailed to attack Berlin one night in December, 1943. On the bombing run the aircraft was hit by shrapnel and one of its engines was rendered useless. In spite of this, Squadron Leader Lynch made another run over the target. The aircraft was again hit. The greater part of the mid-upper turret cupola was torn away and other damage was sustained. Nevertheless, Squadron Leader Lynch pressed home his attack and afterwards flew the damaged bomber to base where he effected a masterly landing. This officer has completed very many sorties and has invariably displayed great skill, courage and resolution."
