He has distinguished himself in the war against Japan in 1941-1942 as fightherpilot by extraordinary courageous and tactful deeds. He has participated in convoy protection off Sumatra and in bombing the Japanese fleet at Indragiri, he has strafed landing barges, bridgeheads and enemy troop concentrations ashore, and he has taken part in every scramble, without exception, following every air raid alarm over Bandung. He has taken part in two dogfights over Bandung, during the second, in a head on attack over Oedjoengbroeng, east of Bandung, he rammed a Japanese fighter and as a result, both aircradft went down and were lost. The Japanese pilot was killed but Sergeant Adam managed to save himself with his parachute. Despite his lack of experience at the time, he displayed great resoluteness, courage and endurance and his frequent voluntary participation in hazardous operations showed an exemplary readiness to make sacrifices.
