Biography

Harold Royce Sparks grew up in Alameda. August 13th, 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in San Francisco. He served as waist gunner on the B-17 41-24399 "MAN-O-WAR", 91st Bomber Group (H).
July 30th, 1943, the aircraft returned from a raid on the Messerschmidt works at Kassel, Germany. On the return flight the aircraft came under attack by Focke Wulff 190 fighters of Jagdgeschwader 26. Ultimately, the aircraft was shot down by Leutnant Johannes Neumann and Harold Royce Sparks lost his life.
