David W. Callanan, 32285677, Private, Company C, 760th Tank Battalion, for meritorious service in action in Cassino, Italy, from ** to ** February 1944. Despite the fact that the tank which he was in was in constant danger from enemy self-propelled guns, enemy Infantry patrols and anti-tank rockets, he helped man the guns of the tank for sixty hours until relieved, thus protecting the tank against capture by German Infantry patrols and providing support for our Infantry troops in the nearby buildings. His courageous action in assisting in holding the advanced and precarious position was in keeping with the best traditions of the Armed Forces of the United States.
