Biography

John Turnbull was the son to John Turnbull and Jane Turnbull. He served as Air Gunner with the rank of Flight Sergeant in No. 202 Squadron.

Citation:
"In June, 1941, Flight Lieutenant Whittome was the captain and Sergeants Mills, Turnbull and Wharton the air gunners of an aircraft which, in the course of a convoy escort operation, was attacked by four enemy aircraft. With great skill, Flight Lieutenant Whittome manoeuvred his aircraft and enabled his air gunners to attack the enemy aircraft as they endeavoured to drop bombs on the convoy. The enemy were finally compelled to break off the attack.
Although his aircraft was damaged, Flight Lieutenant Whittome carried out his protective duties to a successful conclusion.
He has completed 100 operational missions and has always shown the greatest efficiency and devotion to duty. Sergeants Mills, Turnbull and Wharton displayed determined, courageous and effective gunnery throughout."
