Biography

William Raymond Spendlove started working with the North Eastern Railway after his school and remained there until his retirment in 1978. In that time he developed from Goods Porter to yard Inspector. most part of his career he worked at the Colwick Mashalling Yard.
On June 27th, 1936 he married Grace Parnham. The cople had a son (June 16th, 1939) and a daughter (June 14th, 1944).

Description:
"Received as a result of his actions when a wagon of bombs on his train caught fire. He was send forward with instructions to the train driver, to call for the fire brigade. After this, he entered the burning wagon and put out the fire."
