During the course of the battles for North Africa Schweiger's battery destroyed a total of 43 tanks. During the campaign Schweiger proved himself as a great commander and example to his men, as demonstrated when he took the place of a fallen Flak gunner and proceeded to personally destroy 16 tanks. For his own bravery, as well as the achievements of his battery, Schweiger would receive the Knight's Cross.
