Awarded for his actions during the early part of Operation Barbarossa. While subordinated to a Panzer-Division, Itzen and his Batterie managed to destroy 16 enemy tanks, 2 aircraft and a tanker. Throughout this time Itzen proved to be a shining example to his subordinates up until his death in mid-July 1941.

Awarded posthumously.
