“During the attack days 08.-13.09.1941 Oberleutnant Giehrl (Gebirgs-Jäger-Regiment 138) repeatedly and decisively influenced the prosecution and successes of Kampfgruppe Klatt through his independent initiative and outstanding personal bravery.

His initiative and deeds of bravery were the preconditions for the blocking of the vital Russian supply road Lissa sector-Murmansk.
