For having distinguished himself in the face of the enemy by acts of initiative, courage and perseverance during one or more flights in an aircraft, having taken off from Ypenburg airfield in the early morning of May 10th, 1940, as pilot of a D XXI aircraft and having attacked a large number of enemy aircraft, causing the engine of an enemy transportplane to catch fire.
Furthermore, after having attacked a group of enemy aircraft until running out of ammunition and having to land on Noordwijkerhout airfield due to lack of fuel, returning to Ypenburg airfield without ammunition, being shot down and seriously injured after having been attacked by a group of enemy fighters over Wassenaar.
